CAFY Background: As the average age of the farmer’s increases throughout all Caribbean territories, the number of young people entering into the agricultural sector is decreasing alarmingly. It is incumbent on the forum and its national chapters to act with great hast to curb this escalating problem and provide security for this vital sector. The Caribbean Agricultural Forum for Youth as a member of the regional alliance is committed to action and bringing about change in the agricultural sector. The forum envisions that it can be an equal contributing partner in the activity of the alliance as we work collectively to bring about change and economic advancement. To do so we will seek to • Enhance the income earning capacity of youth individual and collectively and enhance both their quality of life and communities through effective plans and programs that promote economic advancement; • Develop leadership and negotiating skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other stakeholders to desired goals; • Develop strategies aimed at promoting the viability of agriculture to obtain increased youth involvement; • Strengthen entrepreneurship skills and abilities and increase capabilities to develop and market agricultural commodities while promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation. In order to achieve the goals afore mentioned CAFY will: • Identify initiatives and activities within the sector through which youth can develop sustainable enterprises; • Encourage partnering organization to develop policies, programs ad projects that will assist in youth development; • Identify funding sources with the view to making these funds available to youth for agri business enterprises; • Educate the youth in sustainable agricultural development and promote CAFY and its national chapters to the wider agricultural community.
